Quick Reminder: Over the next several months, I will be blogging about this:
- God is MAJESTIC
- God is MESSIAH
- God wants to be MASTER
- God wants us to live on MISSION
I have spent the last several weeks blogging about how “God is MAJESTIC” and how “God is MESSIAH”. In my most recent blog, we looked at what Hebrews 1 teaches us about MESSIAH God. In this post, we will continue blogging about MESSIAH God, and we will use Colossians 1 and Colossians 2 to do so.
Let’s look at Colossians 1 first.
Specifically, let’s look at Colossians 1:13-22. It reads:
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His Beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.
In Colossians 1, the Apostle Paul (inspired by the Holy Spirit), does an incredible job showing that Jesus is God. As God, Jesus is Preeminent, the Creator of all. He is MAJESTIC! Colossians 1 teaches us that all of creation is for Jesus! Everything exists for Him!!!!! My entire life should be about worshiping Him!!!! Why? I worship Him because He is the Preeminent, MAJESTIC, Creator, God!!!!!
As we have looked at the last several blogs, He is more than just MAJESTIC. But His MAJESTY alone would be reason to worship Him! He is MAJESTIC, and He is also MESSIAH. How? He rescued us from the dominion of darkness. He has reconciled us to God the Father. He has forgiven our sin! This is what He has done for those who receive Him into their lives, for those who believe in His Name! How complete is that forgiveness? We are presented to God the Father as holy and blameless, free from accusation.
Paul takes it one step further in Colossians 2.
Let’s specifically look at Colossians 2:13-14. It reads:
When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
We were spiritually dead (lifeless), and MESSIAH God made us spiritually alive!!!!!
Paul continues and talks about how the debt against us has been cancelled. Another way of saying that is that Jesus has cancelled the written code. Let me explain this further. It is my understanding that in the first century you would get arrested and be put in jail. Something similar happens in our culture, but there is one difference.
Keep in mind, these were not the kinds of jails that we have today. The prison system of 1st century Rome was almost unlivable. You would be thrown in jail, and above your cell (so to speak), there would be a piece of paper listing off all the crimes you have committed. You could not go free until payment for the crime was made.
For some, they were never able to go free because the crime for their sin was death. For others, they would eventually experience freedom when they had paid for their crime.
Jesus did not put us in a jail cell to pay for the crimes we have committed called sin. He certainly could have done this. He went to the cross and paid that penalty for us, and He rose from the dead on the 3rd day.
If I was in a jail cell for my sin, I could only imagine all the things that would be listed on that paper. It would be impossible for me to pay for all those crimes, and therefore I am so thankful to Jesus that He paid for them instead.
He didn’t just forgive me. He cancelled the written code that I violated. My debt against God is cancelled because of the cross!
He rescued me from darkness. He reconciled me to my Heavenly Father. He has completely forgiven me, and He has done the same for all those who surrender control of their lives to Him.
We must proclaim the truth of the MAJESTIC, MESSIAH, God to this generation. They are drowning. Even the ones that you think aren’t drowning very well could be. I meet with so many guys one on one who battle all kinds of things, but it is important to take note of something.
These guys are usually pretty good guys. They are not on the fringe. They want to love God and lead others and live a life for Him. However, they are hurting on the inside, and they are bowing down to stuff that dishonors a Holy God.
We must tell them of a God who can miraculously heal the hurt of their heart. We must show them that God is MAJESTIC and that God is MESSIAH so they will destroy the disgusting idols they bow down to.
We must not only show them and tell them this. We must experience this for ourselves. We must let God miraculously heal our heart through Jesus. We must gaze on the MAJESTY of God. We must have a fresh understanding of the forgiveness that comes through MESSIAH.
Would you ask God these questions?
- God, am I letting you miraculously heal my heart? Why or why not?
- God, will you show me the splendor of your MAJESTY?
- God, will help me see the depth of my forgiveness because you are MESSIAH?
May all of us experience the God who miraculously heals so we can see Him as MAJESTIC and MESSIAH, and may we share this God with others!!!!!!!
