God’s Righteousness, My Deliverance

When you consider the story of Noah in Genesis 6-9, many things come to mind.  I could write about how wicked the world had become.  I could write about the decision God made to wipe out the earth and start over.  Those would certainly make for some interesting blogs. However, for the sake of this post, I would like to discuss the craziness of Noah’s calling.

Crazy Defined (according to www.dictionary.com):

  • Mentally Deranged
  • Demented
  • Insane
  • Senseless
  • Impractical
  • Totally Unsound

Just think about Noah’s calling for a minute.  It had never rained, but God told Noah there would be a flood.  Crazy!  All the animals would just come to Noah and his family to enter the ark.  Crazy!  Of all people on the earth at the time, God chose Noah and his family.  Crazy!

Is this not what God does though?  Isaiah was called of God to preach a message no one would respond to.  Crazy!  Hosea was called of God to marry a prostitute.  Crazy!  Paul was called of God to be martyred for the same faith He used to persecute others for.  Crazy!

Then I think of my own life.  My wife and I feel called of God to have a large family.  My wife just gave birth for the 7th time.  Crazy!  On top of that, I feel called of God to help tear down the idol of internet pornography in our culture, but especially our Christian culture.  Crazy!

But here is the thing.  Christ going to the cross and resurrecting is crazy!  Christ rescuing us from all our sin and all our shame is crazy.  What’s the point?  God’s crazy call on our lives demands our crazy response of FAITH!

This leads me back to my original character to start this blog, Noah.  Noah’s crazy faith is recorded in Hebrews 11 along with many others and their crazy faith.  I don’t know about you, but I want to be like those folks in Hebrews 11.

What crazy thing is God calling you to?  Ask Him for crazy faith to carry it out.

  1. I’m hearing a lot of “crazy” in my life, thank you for this post and reminder that when it seems like it’s just too crazy or it’s just too hard that God is a crazy God along with us!

  2. In my world (professional counseling), crazy is very undesirable–to be avoided at all costs, We put diagnostic labels on crazy to be able to manage and treat it, we medicate crazy, we hospitalize crazy, etc. Thank you for offering another way to see the work of God in our lives, as well as how He may be directing us in ways that others would call “crazy.” Jim
