Will we drink the cup God has for us?

As I shared in my last post, I really sense that God spoke to me on a prayer walk about a year ago about being a voice against internet pornography in our culture.  When I sensed Him saying this I literally did look around to see if there was anyone else walking behind me.  It’s not just that I hoped that message was for someone else.  I wanted that message to be for someone else.

Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane praying right before he was betrayed by one of His closest followers, Judas Iscariot.  While praying, He asked God the Father, “May this cup be taken from Me?”.  Jesus also prayed there, “Not as I will, but as You will.”  I believe deep down Jesus did not want to go to the cross, but I believe He was willing to drink the cup because He was committed to doing the will of the Father.  We are truly thankful that He did.  Because of His willingness to drink that cup, we have opportunity to be connected in relationship with God.

The thing about Jesus’ obedience though is that it cost Him.  He suffered, bled and died, and He was separated from His Father as the sin of humanity rested on Him at the cross.  I was reminded this week that obedience does cost.  This week as we launched the blog and freedom from pornography video our family has been under attack from the forces of darkness.

My first thought as the attacks came was to shy away from God’s call and hope the message God gave me was for someone else.  However, I was reminded today that He is the one who has called me to this.  This is the cup He has asked me to drink, and He will give me the grace and power I need to drink it!  So this is my prayer, “God, give me the resolve to drink the cup you have for me!  Not my will, but your will be done!  God use me, use your church, to help men, students and families find freedom!”
